EEK! Newbie Extensions Issue

Firefox is still not allowing me to install extensions. When I click to install one, the pop-up at the top of the page says that software downloads are not allowed. . . click edit/options. . . to allow. The problem is I don't see that I have software downloads blocked. I have java / javascript enabled. Can somebody help a mozilla newbie?

Hmm... not sure if this is the issue, but have you tried clicking that little bar that pops up, hitting "allow" and then clicking the install link again? That's what worked for me.

It doesn't pop-up an "allow" link, only a link to my "edit/options" bar. I have everything allowed, even removing the prompt requirement for software installs.

When you click edit options does an allowed sites-software installation box appear.

First, if you do not have it upgrade to firefox 1.5
Now go to tools/ options/ content
check warn me when sites try to install extensions

Older versions there was an option to block install unless you removed the check first.

Still not allowing!!!! I am running 1.5, and have checked the box, but it still just won't let me. I just don't see any other options where one can allow software/extensions.

Are you trying to install from an official firefox site like addons.mozilla.org or a third party one?

i've tried from both. the "official" mozilla site doesn't work either (the one linked to in firefox). I've actually tried lowering every single internet security option I can, and still nothing.
