Problems with Address Bar in Firefox

It seems since using FF for a good while now (getting the latest updates when available). And I have yet to be able to use the address bar without any problems.

Before 1.5 came out, I would always have the problem of getting incomplete addresses, for example, if I was typing "tec" for techsupportforum.com, when the completed address appears underneath, if I didn't click it JUST right, it would try loading a page with just "tec".

Now it's gotten more frustrating since i got 1.5. When I use the address bar to click on sites I've been to before, it now seems to simply "refresh" the page and not load the page I want.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to fix it?

Any help appreciated.

I haven't seen this problem before. What size is your Firefox cache, and have you tried clearing it?

Have you made any changes using about:config involving urlbar or dnsCacheEntries?

What extensions do you have installed?

Does the same thing happen in Windows Explorer or IE?

76.8 MB I believe. I cleaned it recently when I upgraded to 1.5, but as I've said only the random refresh is new since I've upgraded. The "Hard to click properly URLs in the bar" problem has been with since around 1.0.

Not that I know of. Here's what those entries say:

network.dnsCacheExpiration: 3600
network.dnsCacheEntries: 512
browser.tabs.opentabfor.urlbar: true
browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll: true
browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped: false

What extensions do you have installed?

Anything wrong with those?

Nope, but it's weird I noticed, both FF and IE feature the ability to complete your URLs and load previously visited webpages, If you choose a site you're already on in FF the page refreshes, in IE it does nothing.

My Extensions:
* AJAX Yahoo! Mail [Viamatic WebMail++] 0.5
* Adblock 0.5.2.056
* Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.2.6
* BBCodeXtra 0.2.5.4
* Download Sort 2.5.4
* Download Statusbar 0.9.4
* Fasterfox 1.0.1
* Feedview 0.9.8
* FireFTP 0.90.1
* FlashGot 0.5.9.99
* FoxClocks 1.2.60
* FoxyTunes 1.1.5.4
* GameFAQs Toolbar 0.91
* GameFOX 0.5.0
* IE View 1.2.7
* InfoLister 0.9c
* QuickNote 0.6.0.3
* Talkback 1.5
* Text to Image 0.10.0
* Translate 0.6.0.8
* WebmailCompose 0.6.6

This same exact problem has reoccurred today, in 2009. With Firefox 3.5. Check out the problem and the solution here, it turns out it was an incompatibility with an Add-On: http://annoyances-resolved.blogspot....irefox-on.html

Re: Problems with Address Bar in Firefox

Thanks for posting the solution, pittskatty.

This thread is from 2006 and and the OP was using Firefox 1.5, but your post will still be useful for current Firefox users with the same problem.
