Considering the "Big Switch" from IE to Firefox.
A few questions first.
I see the names "Mozilla" and "Firefox" being used interchangably. I just wanna be certain of one thing, Mozilla=Firefox? Me=not stupid Me=tired Me=slightly confused on this simply name issue. Next, I have tons of IE favs, can I import them into Firefox? Does Firefox work with XP SP2. Why is it better, why is it safer? (I have made some assumptions, just need confirmation)

Hi, I can appreciate your concerns. However, you do not have to uninstall IE or anything like that to facilitate installing other browsers. And I for instance have both Mozilla and Firefox browsers installed, as well as the Konqueror browser that came with my Linux system. ( Linux is all about choice by the way )That being said, and you being a windows user, I'll drop the Linux subject, and refer you to the Mozilla website. There lies answers to all your questions regarding Mozilla, Firefox, and the differences and similarities of the two. You will need to install some "plug-ins" for some extensions to work/run, most of these install pretty easily. One substantial difference you'll enjoy is the popup blocking. and the extra security afforded with the use of these browsers. Here is the Mozilla link to get you started. http://www.mozilla.org Funny how I manage to just type that in.

Mozilla is a Suite of product that include a browser and mail options.
Firefox is just a browser ( i shoudn't say just a browser because in wy opinion it is the best you can get. JUst one click gets your IE favourites transferred to firefox It works with SP2 IE is used by about 80% of people therfore it is the number one target for the Cretins to attack. Try the tabbed browsing and you wont go back to IE As Batty said you can have both and if you dont like it you can just uninstall it without any hassles

Once converted to Firefox, you will not go back!!
You will keep IE and use it for the following, all MS updates (Windows, Office, etc.) You will also need it as some web sites will not support Firefox and you will get the following message: "The Page Cannot Be Found". In this case I revert to IE to see if I can access the page. Download Adaware SE and you will see everytime you use IE, you will have a lot of clean up to do, with Firefox it is almost always clean!! Another feature of Firefox that you may need to use (under Tools, Options, Web Features), is to allow pop ups from specific web sites. This is actually a good tool, do not need to use it often, but Firefox appears to automatically block pop ups from most web sites. I converted months ago and recommend nothing but Firefox. JamesO |

Extensions, extensions, extensions. It's a beautiful thing.
Firefox is made my mozilla, but mozilla has it's own browser. Firefox is the best in my opinion. Back to extensions d/l ie view this extension allows right clicking and opening the page in IE if you need to. D/L mouse gestures there are a few different ones so you can play around with them to see which one you like best. One of my favorites is bug-me-not this one allows you to go to sights like the New York Times and not have to sign up for the sight to log in. I'd go through a few more with you but I have to go pick up my son from daycare. So have fun with FF and don't be afraid to try out the extensions. BTW tabbing is the best and there are also some extensions for tweaking that as well.

Are you sure you really want to reformat? You'll need to re-install your O/S, A-V, and any other installed applications. As well as SP-2, and all the associated system and A-V updates. Do you have all your personal stuff backed up?
