Re: Javascript required, but is enabled in ie8 and firefox 3.55
Check your firewall, security software, internet settings and browser addons to see if any of them are blocking scripts.
Please post a link to the site you're trying to download from.

Re: Javascript required, but is enabled in ie8 and firefox 3.55
I went to the video section of archive.org with javascripts blocked in Firefox 3.5.3 by the NoScript addon and got a message saying "Internet Archive's in-browser video player requires JavaScript to be enabled. It appears your browser does not have it turned on. Please see your browser settings for this feature."
When I told NoScript to allow scripts, the page reloaded showing the video player (see pic below), so it looks like there's a problem with your scripts settings, especially as you're getting it in both IE and Firefox rather than just one browser. When I used IE8, the video loaded straight away, meaning my security/internet settings are correct. You need to check the options in your firewall, security programs and Control Panel > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level button to see which of them is blocking scripts, javascripts and/or java applets.

Have you looked in Control Panel > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level button?

To take a screenshot, hit the PrtScr button on your keyboard. This copies an image of your screen into the clipboard. Open Paint or any other image editor, create a new document (File>New), hit Ctrl-V to paste the image, then save as a jpg. Attach the jpg to your next reply using the Manage Attachments button (scroll down to the Additional Options area below the reply box).

Re: Javascript required, but is enabled in ie8 and firefox 3.55
In your screenshot in post#11, scroll down in the second window (Security Settings - Internet Zone) to see the 'Scripting of Java applets' setting. It should be 'enabled'.
Everything else looks ok, but I'm not familiar with the settings in your PC Tools Firewall. That's the only other thing I can think of that might be blocking scripts.

Re: Javascript required, but is enabled in ie8 and firefox 3.55
hi Koala, it turns out that it was not a javasript issue at all, it was that i was downloading incorrectly, i was right clicking on the movie in the center where the big green arrow is instead of left clicking the left side of the page where it gives the three options oog, mpeg4 ect, anyway i just wanted to thank you again for all your help i hope that maybe someone can benefit from viewing this, sometimes little things can be big, bless you all, peace.

Re: Javascript required, but is enabled in ie8 and firefox 3.55
Thanks for posting back with your solution. The video player streams the flash video (controlled by javascript), so is not available to download directly through the player.
I was concentrating on the error message and should have looked more closely at the webpage to see the download options in the menu on the left.
