Re: Server not found error in Firefox for one site

Either really, just in general as you said neither worked.

I wasn't suggesting it be the fix you're looking for, just asking to see if that did work. As it would then narrow it down to being a problem with your ISP/IP address or the server you're trying to reach, not FireFox/IE itself (I think). Like, perhaps you've been blocked their somehow, and when you IP Address is seen trying to connect, it won't allow it? Or maybe for some odd reason your ISP has blocked that site or something. I don't know really, I was just making a suggestion to try and help lol.

IE is present on here. However, since I've tried to get rid of it, a fresh download and all that might be necessary. Not something I want to ring MicroSoft's doorbell for. Maybe I should say "back"doorbell.

To review: all of the info for my user account at apl is available at something called info soup. It's just the main page that gives local news and links to the
state catalog-- and only on this machine-- that does not connect.

Re: Server not found error in Firefox for one site

Well, I have an IE folder but I did the instruction and it still gives the error.

Not trying to drag this out. I think it's insoluable. This is a waste of our time and I apologize.

I'm going to plug in the backup and see what happens.

Re: Server not found error in Firefox for one site

Best of luck you can try reinstalling the latest version of Firefox and resetting TCP/IP along with the Winsock Catalog as last effort.

Re: Server not found error in Firefox for one site

Ok thanks. A scratch install seems like the only cure. I did reboot the backup-- same problem. And that backup is only a couple weeks old.

How does that go with resetting TCP IP since you mentioned it?

Is that in about config?

I will file a letter with the ISP just to see what happens.

Re: Server not found error in Firefox for one site

After all our discussion here, I did contact the ISP. It turns out that there was a problem with them and the apl.org.

The customer rep. said now I can reboot the dsl and all would be well. And the problem no longer exists.

I voiced my displeasure at having no word from them as to the problem. But the ISP is subject to spam in the form of customer messages ie: mail from "Your support team at blah blah" which is a virus catcher. So I never read of those sorts of mails.

thank you for your patience.
