constant "connection interrupted"

For a week now my PC has been unable to connect to the internet on Firefox or internet explorer yet I'm still able to use things like msn, steam ,wow and can ping sites in cmd. its not a problem with my network, router or internet provider since i'm able to still use the internet on my laptop.

I have tried the following so please don't post these:
ipconfig /release /renew and /flush dns
checking my browser for proxy
system restoring to before problems started (like a week before)
restarting router (turning it on and off)
scanning for viruses, spy ware etc

The PC is running xp sp3 and is using a wireless adapter

Any advice would be appreciated

quick note: it's now coming up as "the connection was reset"

and someone help please because this starting to become a big hassle

do you have a firewall installed / enabled?

i have tried disabling both my windows and virus scanners fire wall nether had any results
