[SOLVED] Password issues

Up until roughly a week ago Firefox was remembering passwords perfectly.
There are two different things it is now doing with passwords.

Certain websites had an "remember function" which saves the Password/Login but won't sign you in automatically. These sites work fine.

For sites (like this one) where if you click "remember me" and you are always logged in unless you click log out, It doesn't keep me logged in anymore. I now have to manually log myself into these sites.

I have checked Firefox password settings and nothing is different then when it used to keep me logged into sites and I don't know of any 3rd party programs I trust which would help with this.

Off topic, Does anyone know how to turn off the function where when you restart Firefox it reopens at the page you closed it on?

Re: Password issues

Do you have cookies enabled? Some sites, like this one, store your login details in a cookie.

To disable the reopen feature in Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Main tab and disable 'When Firefox starts - Show my windows and tabs from last time'. Also, check the options in Tools > Session Manager > Settings.

If this doesn't fix it, check your addons for any similar features. For example, I use the Tab Mix Plus addon which overrides the standard Firefox way of starting and remembering previous tabs.

Re: Password issues

Fixed the issue about loading the page Firefox was closed on.

The default setting in 'Tools > Options > Privacy' is "Remember History". When I go to "Use custom settings for history" in the drop down menu, It says Cookies are enabled and when I look at which cookies are saved every site that should remember a password and/or auto login is there except for one and all cookies shall be kept until they "expire"

Re: Password issues

try this if ff is fogetting ur pass

Firefox 3.0+ stores cookies in a file called cookies.sqlite. These cookies include password/log-in info from sites that supply such - like VideoHelp.

What has likely happened is that your cookies file is corrupt. Using Firefox's "Delete Cookies" to clear out cookie info won't be enough, because the cookies.sqlite file itself is still there and so are the problems. You must delete the entire file. Don't worry - Firefox will create a new version the next time you start up the browser.

To delete the cookie.sqlite file, first exit completely out of Firefox, then go to Windows Explorer. Place the following text into the Address Bar ..

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

You should then see an oddly named folder with .default as the extension name (if not, tell Explorer to show extension names).

Now, click-on this folder and look for the file cookies.sqlite, then delete it.

Suggestion - Before deleting the cookies file, write down the username and password info used at each site requiring them. Then after you delete the cookies file, re-enter Firefox, go to all the sites where you put in log-in info and re-enter all such info.

After this, exit out of Firefox, then go back to Windows Explorer and re-visit the folder where cookies.sqlite is and copy it to a different folder.

Now, if you should start having log-in problems again, just copy over the back-up file which will write over the current cookies.sqlite file. If you have joined new sites with log-in requirements since, then save such info accordingly and backup the cookies.sqlite file again.

Re: Password issues

I can't view the address bar in my folders so go to that Windows Explorer folder. I right click where it should be and turn on the address bar but all that comes up is a small box on the right that says "address" I can't do anything to it though. I have tried changing my folder options but that does nothing.

Re: Password issues

That's the problem I'm having with the address bar.
As you can see in the circled areas, it says it is turned on but all I can see is the box on the right that says "Address" and there is nothing you can do with the box.

Re: Password issues

In the popup menu that you've circled, click 'Lock The Toolbars' to remove the checkmark and allow the toolbars to be moved. Then drag the Address bar to the left. When you've got it positioned where you want it, click 'Lock The Toolbars' again.
