[SOLVED] Search History for Mozilla Firefox 3
I don't know if this is the type of question I should be asking here, but I figure I should anyway, since this little "feature" of Mozilla Firefox 3 makes no sense to me.
If the question has already been asked, I apologize in advance. Anyway, is there any way to disable... Well, I suppose I would call it internal URL searching for the Firefox navigation bar? Basically, what I mean is, when I search for something like... Oh, lets say... I start searching for the letter M. Let's say I want to get to the Mozilla Firefox start page, who knows? Anyway, instead of giving me stuff that starts with M, it gives me: Runescape - the massive online adventure game. I mean, seriously? Is there any way to disable that stupid as heck feature? If I wanted Runescape I'd be searching for R! Not M! Anyway, yes... That feature is actually the reason I refused to change to Firefox 3 for so long. If you can help me, I will love you forever. |

Re: Search History for Mozilla Firefox 3
Hi, welcome to TSF
To disable the dropdown suggestions feature in the Firefox 3 navigation bar, type about:config and hit the Enter key. When the config tab opens, type browser.urlbar.maxRichResults in the Filter bar, double-click the entry and change its value to 0.

Re: Search History for Mozilla Firefox 3
First of all, thank you for the welcome, and for the response.
I tried what you suggested, and it seemed to have a different effect than what I was going for. It changed the number of results I got when I typed something into the URL bar, but not its behavior. To make things a bit easier, is there any way to get the Firefox 3 URL bar to work like the Firefox 2 URL bar worked? Where 1) It would only search for the URL of something, if you started typing it in, not it's title, and 2) that the results from searching for something are solely results which begin with the typed letters. I still want it to give me results, I just want it to do it something like Firefox 2 used to. |

Re: Search History for Mozilla Firefox 3
There are some suggestions on tweaking the Awesome bar and removing some of its features here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...?f=38&t=685365
Or you could install the Old Location Bar addon to make the Firefox 3 navigation bar work as it did in Firefox 2. Quote:
