[SOLVED] slow Hotmail with Firefox

When I first started using firefox, my hotmail service ran quite fast. Now
every time I open hotmail and scroll from email to email or delete or
move to folders, the loading tab shows up in the lower left corner and
takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute to complete the function. Any
explanation as to why it is now running so slow?
I do not have this situation occur with any of the gmail accounts I have.
This started suddenly and about a week ago. It is frustrating to wait so long.
Does anyone have a similar problem or possible solution? Victor1244

Hi victor.

This happens occasionally for me too. I usually check my running processes to check if anything else is running that (importantly) I'm not aware of or I've forgotten about. To check yours - Ctrl+Shift+Esc - then look in the Processes tab for the big numbers in CPU. There's a visual graph under Performance.

I think you'll find a lot of the time it is just because the servers are busy - nowt you can do about that really (without affecting other users by tweaking).

K, Thank you for your response. I checked my processes and all looks normal. When I clicked on the link to your answer, Hotmail just did nothing. When I minimized the Hotmail screen, then a new window opened up immediately. I have been minimizing the screen and playing Minesweeper while waiting for Hotmail to respond. When I go back Hotmail was waiting and had performed the proper function. So, one time I tried minimizing and went right back and it worked. I don't know if I have some kind of virus or a computer problem. I have only heard of one other person having this problem, no one else seems to be complaining, so I assume it is not a universal problem. Sorry for the lenghty rant, it is frustrating and only started about 2 weeks ago. I have no problem with g-mail, I might have to just get rid of Hotmail altogether, which I don't want to do.

I suppose there's a few things you could do to try to eliminate anything that could be slowing Hotmail down.

Run an anti spyware/adware prog. Might as well run an anti virus one too.

Clear your cache.

Delete IE temp files.

Have you tried running Hotmail in different browsers to make a comparison?

See if they do anything positive for you.

Thank you again K. I have run one adware program, will try another. I will try the antivirus. Good idea about the browser, I have chrome and will try hotmail with that, I wouldn't have thought of that. Thanks again, will post the results. Victor1244

If Firefox is slow when you're using Hotmail, try this as it worked for me if you're using AVG Free Edition:

Tools -> Add-ons -> AVG SafeSearch 9.0 -> Disable

Restart Firefox and you should be good to go. AVG seems to be taking forever to verify each Hotmail link you click on.

Thank you Joel. Since I posted this question I had problems with windows and had to do a complete reboot of XP. I lost everything I had. When I got XP running again, I downloaded Panda antivirus and I have no problems with Hotmail now. I will make a note of the fix that you pointed out for future reference. Thanks again, Victor
