Cool Yahoo Search Everywhere (URL Address Bar, New Tab Page + Browser Search)? Fix here !

Hi all,

I came across this today so thought I would post it.

I have been having issues in getting my default search engine to be set differently from Yahoo.

After changing many settings Yahoo was still the default search for the URL bar and my new tab page.

The issue is with AVG Free Toolbar.

Use this link to change the following settings mentioned below:

http://www.avg.com/special-toolbar-h...tlbrf.tpl-mcr1

Set and keep Yahoo! as search provider for Address Bar = UN TICK IT !
Set and keep Yahoo! as browser search provider = UN TICK IT !
Show Yahoo! search box on new tab pages in the browser = UN TICK IT !

Hope this helps you all :)

Pete

Why even have the Yahoo tool bar installed?

It comes default with the AVG Toolbar. No way to get rid of it without uninstalling the AVG Free software which isn't an option. Seems its krept back on me so the above may not work. Yahoo have somehow managed to get it to continue as the default search engine what ever I try.

I have always been able to get rid of the Yahoo Tool bar...It does not come as default with AVG... Look carefully...You are given an option...if you want to include the tool bar to be installed.

It can still be (easily) removed from your computer...regardless of what it came with.

Actually a good fix for this would be to simply download AVG from download.com to your desktop now uninstall AVG free and reboot once your icons are fully loaded run the AVG installer and select custom or advanced setup rather than the default setup and now in about your third step remove the check from "Install AVG toolbar recommended" hope this ism helpful.

Just check in your add/remove programs and you should be able to remove Yahoo toolbar from there as well I personally do not care for the AVG toolbar and never install it on my machines or any customer's machines either.

It has been a few months since I left Avg (which I used for a very long time) for Avira
There are two programs that I use to to get rid of this kind of stuff...CCleaner ... and Revo uninstaller....That is the method I prefer as it removes it from the computer
Edit: and does a better job than than the windows add or remove program
