Hello There =)
I have been having some trouble with my internet browsers =/, not only Firefox, it's also Internet Explorer! The problem with firefox: Firefox is showing in task manager processes, sometimes many times, but not in applications, and a browser window won't open. This happens whether or not I click on the desktop icon to open FF. I made no changes to my configuration, it just started happening....again! It has done this in the past, and I cannot remember for the life of me what I did to fix it. I have deleted it, reloaded it, tried many of the "fixes" in the Mozilla help forums, to no avail. The problem with IE: IE is doing the same thing, except a browser window will finally partially open, but it just keeps trying, with no luck, & then finally I just close it. -------------------------------- I'm using Windows XP, Chrome (google browser), AVG Paid Version, FF & IE. I just checked, and all of these are the updates versions! Can you help me out please?! Thanks!!!

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
Hi,
I would make sure that your computer is clean of viruses, spyware, and adware etc. If you need help with getting a scanner for any of those things you can take a look at this. Cheers!

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
Hello!
I have ran multiple scans on my computer, and downloaded a free firewall from you. All of the virus scans came up with nothing! Do you know what the problem could be?? Thanks |

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
Hi -
Firefox is what I see as being a power-hungry application [1], I know this sounds strange seeing as how it is a very small program, but I've gotten it's CPU up to around 70,000 before. Which is quite a bit for just a browser. I suggest you try running it in Safe Mode [2]. This will determine if it's drivers, or some other disabled objects in Safe Mode - since, Safe Mode accesses windows interface without loading any unnecessary drivers or software. Another helpful thing to remember would be to include all plugins and addons, since those are a major, major, MAJOR, reason for not booting up correctly, and corrupting of your Firefox. So, if you would be so kind as to please try and remember all addons, that would be much appreciated [3]. [1]: A "power-hungry application" is basically a application (program, console-program, GUI, etc) that uses massive amounts of CPU or in more than one way bogs down your PC. This isn't likely for Firefox, but I'm just throwing my personal experiences out there for the learning of others! [2]: How do I run XP in Safe Mode? Try referring to this guide, as it even informs me of some stuff I was unfamiliar with. Guide here, good luck. [3]: Basically, you're going to have to redirect to this location (assuming you can search your computer, and you're familiar with it fairly well): First thing you're going to have to know is if you can view hidden folders or not, so please go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial130.html and check. Now, go here: " C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\qm7rpv55.default\extensions\ " You should see some weird numbers and letters combines to show you multiple folders, some of mine are as follows: " {AE37D527-6604-461c-8102-975CF8053A2F} " " {d10d0bf8-f5b5-c8b4-a8b2-2b9879e08c5d} " Now, open one at a time and navigate to: " \chrome " You should the plugins name, followed by it's extension, which will be ".jar". List all of your plugins. HTH

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
I tried what you suggested below, and I couldn't find any extensions with the .jar .
Also, when I start my computer in Safe Mode, it will NOT connect to the Internet. Just for grins, I tried to click on the desktop Firefox icon, and it DOES open a Firefox window, although it won't process any further due to no connection. Weird, I know. I restarted my computer, and tried your fixes below again, still couldn't find the .jar ext, and now FF won't even open a browser window, but it is still showing up under processes in the task manager. Anyway, I am at a loss. I truly appreciate all of your help so far |

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
Hi -
That guide above was if you had extentions, which.. I'm sure you do, everyone does. If you do or don't, please tell me if you atleast see the "extension" folder, where you're then suppose to see all the long, strange, random character folders. I am trying to determine if it's a plugin/extension problem (since, most of the time it is). Try running firefox in Safe Mode (I don't mean rebooting your computer or anything, Firefox has it's own "Safe Mode" you can use, if you're unaware of how to run it or have no clue what I'm talking about try this guide). You'll notice you can't just "run" it, you have to tick some checkboxes, so you'll get this prompt: ![]() Please, tick ALL of the checkboxes. You mentioned how you didn't get internet while running Windows Safe Mode - this is completely normal, it's actually designed to disable it. Although, if you're able to see Firefox's GUI, then I highly believe this is an add-on/extention problem. HTH, please get back to me.

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
Hello,
sorry for the late reply, I have been very busy... However, I can run FF in safe mode, like you suggested, but I still cannot get it to work otherwise. It still shows in "processes", but a window will not open. This is very aggravating =( Thank you for all of your help! |

Re: Firefox wont open, but shows in processes list!?
Hey!
I have this too. If you are running the recent Firefox 3.5, there is a known problem of very slow loading. It is being worked on, but what people identified is that it is a problem with your Internet Explorer cache! If you can clear this, it should load quicker. I hope they fix it soon. What I have to do is load it. Close it in task manager processes, do that again, then the third time it will load.
