Getting Redirects with Google Search
Over the past few days, whenever I do a search in Google, or Alta Vista the search goes as expected but when I click on the link, it gets redirected to another site. I can click back to the original search and click on the link again and it will usually take me to the site I was trying to get too in the first place. Today, however, while trying to get to Mozilla's site to see if they had a cure, it took four tries. They are not all the same sites but they are all sales or information sites of one type or another.
Anyone have an idea how to get rid of this irritating problem. Better still, do you have an address where I can send a letter bomb to the developer? Just kidding, but this is a little irritating. I have used AVG to scan my system and it did not find anything. I also used HP's laptop system scan (the infected computer is an HP Laptop) but as expected it found no problems. |

Re: Getting Redirects with Google Search
Hi,
Welcome to TSF!! I would recommend that you download the program Spybot Search and Destroy. This will see if there is any spyware on your computer. That may be the problem. Cheers!

Re: Getting Redirects with Google Search
Hey everyone!
I have been having a similar problem as stated above - Being redirected when trying to click links when using search engines such as Yahoo/Google/etc. As recommended by wmorri, I have downloaded SpyBots Search & Destroy, updated it, and have begun scanning process. As of right now, it has already found 19+ Malware and Security files/problems. Once it has completed its scan and rid my computer of them, I'll do some search link testing and update you all on the results. |

Re: Getting Redirects with Google Search
thanks for all the input on my question. I have found a couple of sites that seem to have solved the problem. Both sites provide FREE software to remove these irritating programs.
The first is : http://malwarebytes.org Download, install and let it run. I actually had to download this software to a flash drive from a clean computer because the hijacker would not let me get there or if I managed to fool it and get to the site, it would not download. This one should do the job but just in case I also used: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner. This site offers both a free online scanner as well as a free download and free 30 day trial of their fully licensed security system. After downloading, installing and running both these programs, the hijacker seems to be gone. Good luck, hope this works. |
