Firefox I/E half works
Both browsers sort of work. They will both go to youtube just fine or msn or ebay. But both won't go to google , yahoo , hotmail , or other various sites , they just load forever. As I said they just half work. Reinstalling firefox does nothing same with updateing I/E.
Been like this for well over a year , any time I want to go to all of the internet , I have to use another machine.

Re: Firefox I/E half works
Hi,
Sorry to hear that you have been dealing with this problem for so long. Why don't we start with what you have tried so that we don't make you backtrack. Then we can figure out what can be done to fix this. Something that I am interested in is what version of each you are using? Cheers!

Re: Firefox I/E half works
Firefox is version 2.0.0.14 and I/E is version 6. But I don't really care about I/E if I can get firefox working. I've tried totally removeing and reinstalling firefox and it still does it. I have a firewall but even when I disable it/end it still does it. Got the windows firewall disabled too.
This machine actually has two windows installations , the one that has the internet problem also has other weird problems too. Like explorer ends randomly somtimes , programs somtimes don't start , catalyst won't install. But I've just gotten used to it, because all of my games are on this windows and I don't want to redo it. The other installation I made just to play GTA4. On that installation the internet works fine and so does catalyst and everything else.

Hi,
Have you run all your scans to make sure that your computer is clean? If you need help with any take a look at this: PC Safety and Security--What Do I Need? Cheers!

Re: Firefox I/E half works
Are you using a custom HOSTS file, or any security software that edits the file? If only certain websites are being blocked, and especially as they are search and email sites, that suggests an infection.
Have you scanned for viruses, tojans, spyware, etc with anything better than Super Antispyware? Try updating Firefox to version 2.0.0.20 and IE to version 7. When you uninstalled Firefox before reinstalling, did you delete the hidden folder and all profile details? Are the 2 installed versions of Windows both XP? Are they on separate partitions or drives? Have you tried a repair install or SFC? If you're having other OS-related problems, I would get those fixed before looking at Firefox. EDIT: If Catalyst won't install, does it give any error messages about the .NET Framework not being installed?

Re: Firefox I/E half works
Well , the windows answers first. Yes there both xp. There both on the same partition , just different directories(windows, windows2). I've used other programs such as avg to scan for viruses , but superantispyware seems to do a better job (in the sense that it finds and removes more). As for catalyst , every time I go to install it the registry writer stops responding thus doesn't install the software.
I think I'm just going to let this issue go and use the other partition. There's also a lot of game compatibility mode issues as well and problems with the 2d aspect of the video drivers. The installation had a good 3 or 4 year run , lol. But gotta reinstall windows at some point.

Re: Firefox I/E half works
I'm no Windows expert, but having 2 operating systems on the same partition doesn't seem like a good idea. They will be sharing system files, which could cause the kind of conflicts and problems you're having.

Re: Firefox I/E half works
Well actually they don't share system files just program files. It changes the name of the windows directory when it installs another windows. But however they do use the same programs files directory which i found out the hard way when I uninstalled gta 4 on the first windows and it removed my saves on the other installation. lol. Had to play the whole game again.
