failed update to FF3

hi, I decided this pm to upgrade to Firefox 3, so I went to my admin account, opened Firefox and clicked on Help, Upgrade (I had previously read it was ok to upgrade from within FF). The program downloaded, and I got the message to close Firefox and the new would be installed. I closed FF, waited a few seconds and nothing happened, so I clicked on the desktop icon and a window opened with a message (in red) to say something like Parse error. FF just would not open. I would love to know where the program that was downloaded disappeared to. I decided to change back to my everyday account and luckily the "old" FF was still here, so here I am feeling a bit panicked. Has anyone heard of this Parse error, and does anyone know what I should do now? Firefox does appear in Add/Remove Progs (on this account anyway) but only version2.

Re: failed update to FF3

this morning I tried again to find where yesterday's download had disappeared to - I have NetMeter so I know there was a download. Anyway, I decided to try again, this time going to the Mozilla site itself (via IE). I downloaded it, uninstalled the previous and installed FF3. Phew. I'd still like to know what happened to yesterday's download, and what the parse error message was all about, but hey ho. I would advise others not to try to update Firefox from within the program as I did yesterday - incidentally I have done this before and it was ok previously.

Re: failed update to FF3

Hi,

Without the exact error message there isn't really a lot that I can tell you. I am glad that you were able to get FF3 though. If you can post the exact error then we might be able to come up with something.

Cheers!

Re: failed update to FF3

hi wmorri, I didn't keep the message unfortunately, but thanks for replying anyway. If it wasn't for computers what would we have to worry about! (Only joking).
