Unable to shut down Firefox 3.0.3
I'm having a rather curious problem with Firefox 3.0.3. Sometimes when I try to follow a link or a bookmark (usually on deviantART) it will just display "Connecting to..." or similar, and then nothing will happen. I've tried leaving it for considerable lengths of time, and it will just stay there, the little circle-thing in the upper right corner will spin and spin, but nothing happens. If I try to close Firefox, and open it again, I get told that Firefox is already running. And when I open the Task Manager and go to Processes, I see firefox.exe there. So I try to close the process, but nothing happens. The only thing that works is to reset my computer, which I really don't like to do. Sometimes I can force a shutdown of the computer, but it usually takes like 5 to 10 minutes (and I usually get told that "nsAppShell: EventWindow" must be closed, or something similar). Anyone have any idea what this is about? I've tried clearing out my private data (cookies and so forth), I've tried a new profile, nothing works. I had this problem on at least the two previous versions of Firefox as well, so it's not directly related to Firefox 3.0.3. (And I'm using Windows XP SP3).
Any and all help appreciated. Last edited by Jonas72; 10-07-2008 at 10:37 AM. |

Re: Unable to shut down Firefox 3.0.3
Hi,
Here is what I recommend that you do. I believe that this is caused by a bad plugin/add-on. I would recommend that you disable all of them and one by one enable them. Then see if you get an error message after one of them. Then you will have your culprit. Cheers!

Re: Unable to shut down Firefox 3.0.3
Is it possible that my ISP could be to blame? Today we finally got our new fiberoptic internet connection, and the problem seems to have vanished. It hasn't happened yet, at least, after we got the new connection up and running.

Re: Unable to shut down Firefox 3.0.3
I suppose your isp could have done something to your internet connection. But that shouldn't of stopped your FF from closing. If you have any other problems just let us know and we will do our best to fix them for you.
Cheers!

Re: Unable to shut down Firefox 3.0.3
Thanks, that's much appreciated. The problem still hasn't reoccured, and my girlfriend's PC, which was prone to blue screen, hasn't had a single hang all day. I'm carefully optimistic right now, but will await developments. :) It seems strange that an ISP could cause all this, but we're not really surprised, either, since they have shown nothing but unprofessionalism since we became customers of them.
