Re: Compatibility With Vista
Hi, I don't use firefox but Vista on its own has those problems already. One of my house mates has vista and uses firefox a lot and never seemed to have a problem with it. Maybe try installing firefox on it first and if it goes bad, reinstall Vista.

Re: Compatibility With Vista
Hey, i use firefox on vista, once you've ridded of "Data Execution Prevention"(One of Vista's paranoid security measures that ruins your computing experience) it seems to work fine... As it is i don't like vista, and if downgrading to XP wasn't such an effort i'd have done that already. Since the latest version of FF i've not had any problems.
Have you considered dual booting with something like Ubuntu?(It seems quite a popular pair to have and i've used it for quite a while) Cheers, Jamey |

Re: Compatibility With Vista
Hi, sorry what you have heard, Vista runs very smooth on my 2 laptops (one is Vista 64-bit) and a desktop, tho needs some tweaking as mentioned above, UAC.
Hope I'm allowed to post a wonderful site for tweaking Vista, XP, and Firefox... http://www.howtogeek.com/tag/windows-vista/ Enjoy as I have... Edit: no clue why it says a 1st post (1) ? But no problem with me. Last edited by marsh_0x; 10-05-2008 at 07:53 PM. |

Re: Compatibility With Vista
hi
thanks for the replies. so the general idea is that mozilla works on vista. marsh 0x, thanks for the link but it totally baffled me, lol. i wouldn't know where to start with that lot. I'm nervous about switching to vista as i have never seen it before, at all! So changing any of that is a long way off. lol i'm busy trawling through all my programmes that i have at the mo, to see if they will all go on my new system when it arrives. it's a bit of a nightmare! |

Re: Compatibility With Vista
Hey again, if you've used XP a great deal you'll be fine working out Vista, the main (noticable) differences are the random desktop clutter(widgets etc. apparently they can be useful?) and the random compatibility issue error messages.
As for the programs running on the new system you're most likely to be fine, i managed to get all mine working/find a vista compatible alternative. If in doubt with a program google it. To be honest the only thing i like about Vista is the changeability and the new start menu's search feature(saves me a lot of time) everything else seems a little flashy and useless. But it is shipped on most/all laptops and desktop nowadays so it's un-avoidable. Good luck with the new system, if you do find any compatibility issues you can't work out then post back with them, etc. Cheers, Jamey |

Re: Compatibility With Vista
Don't be too afraid, The general lay out is the same, has been for a long time, just some things added, a lot of visual (use less I think) stuff, and the the UAC, which is annoying (and I turned it off - easily done). There are a few programs, mostly a lot of games which would give a problem, but almost all the bigger compaines resealed free updates by now. I do agree the service pack made it better than it orginall y was, just give it a try first, and oh course this site already has a lot of information on it for you.

Re: Compatibility With Vista
Hi Alex please don't me nervous, consider it a new venture.
The link helps fine tune Vista and XP. Example: Vista will nag you with a popup asking your permission to continue, gets old very fast. Hi Jamie, a beautiful freeware called Start Menu Vista, gives a new start menu. Google and you will love it. |
