Firefox won't open .swf files from my HDD.

I'm trying to open some of my .swf files from my HDD, but firefox keeps giving me the "You have chosen" screen

This is not my exact screen, but this is the window I get.

So I choose to open with Firefox, but it just pops up this same "You've chosen" window.

However I am able to view .swf files from websites without a problem, just not those saved to my drive.

I've uninstalled Adobe flash and installed it multiple times. Someone suggest me the problem maybe related to my registry, that windows it not finding the flash plugin in firefox. Any help would be great.

Using Windows XP SP2 with the latest version of Adobe Flash.

Also, I used a stand alone .swf player (Swiff Player) and It won't load my files.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Firefox won't open .swf files from my HDD.

Yep, I have flash player installed. It works on websites that have embedded .swf files on them. I used to save embedded .swf files to my HDD, to play them and it worked fine, but now it doesn't. my firefox about:vonfig says I have Shockwave Flash Player plugin installed.

If all else fails, drag and drop it onto an internet explorer window. I personally use Media Player Classic for swf files.

Re: Firefox won't open .swf files from my HDD.

Well, I tried your method, but it takes me back to the firefox app, and I tried opening it with media player classic and to no avail it said "Cannot create shockwave control" Hmmm time for some more investigative work.

Re: Firefox won't open .swf files from my HDD.

What exactly happens when you drag and drop on an IE window? (BTW you have to have flash for IE installed first - go to adobe and get the flash plugin using IE if necessary). And Media Player classic needs that plugin too (the IE version). The Firefox and IE version of flash are mutually exclusive.

Also do you know if your swf files associated with any programs? (go to control panel, folder options, file types tab, and look to see if swf files are assigned to open with anything in particular).

It gives me the IE choice window, making me decide if I want to Open it in IE, or Save it to disk. If I click Open it sends it into Firefox and sends me back to the choose screen. I have a feeling this Might be a windows XP related problem. As I can no longer open my folder options from control panel. Some virus might have got some important files I might need to do a system repair.

Had the same issue. It's a problem with the firefox skin.
Switch firefox to the default skin and restart firefox.
.swf files will work again.
