How do I stop a redundant process/tab?

Redundant tabs are resurrected after I close them, I assume, because the associated process is still there. What is the safest way to eliminate the redundant process?

Re: How do I stop a redundant process/tab?

Tools -> Options -> Main -> When Firefox starts:

Change 'show my windows and tabs from last time' to one of the other options.

Re: How do I stop a redundant process/tab?

That was useful.
On a similar note though, how can one stop Mozilla from opening a new tab every time one uses the Home button? Can't find it in about:config. Any ideas?
