I get messed up string trying to log in
why do I get this tag any time I try to access Yahoo

Hi Patrick, welcome to TSF
Go to Tools > Options > Clear Private Data, select Cache and Cookies from the list and click the Clear Private Data button. Restart Firefox and try accessing Yahoo again. If you're using any Firefox addons that blocks/allows scripts (eg. NoScript), disable javascripts for Yahoo.
