[SOLVED] Youtube Videos Won't Play
Another casualty of the "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." thing floating around on youtube.
I'm in desperate need of help ![]() I'm sure this problem has been mentioned here before, but I don't think that a viable solution has been reached to date. My primary browser is Firefox 3.0.1 Basically, this is the screen I get whenever I want to play ANY youtube video on youtube. (On a side note, I can't play videos on www.hulu.com either, but i think the problem lies in the same place.) ![]() I've tried uninstalling Adobe Flash, and reinstalling it about a dozen times as per their guidelines. (Shut down all applications that may use it, MSMSG, IE, Firefox, etc) I've tried completely turning off my firewall and antivirus (before and after installation) I've tried clearing my browser cookies and clearing the cache. I've tried downloading another browser (Google Chrome in this case) but the problem there is exactly the same. Now the weird thing is that I could watch youtube videos embedded into other websites just fine. This one for instance, I can view just fine: http://help.youtube.com/support/yout...y?answer=56115 My system specs: E8400 Stock 3.0Ghz, GA-P35-DS3L(latest bios), 2x2GB Mushkin PC6400, XFX 8800 Ultra, 700W OCZ GameXStream. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated...as I'm finding it very frustrating. ![]() Thanks in advance :) |

Re: Youtube Videos Won't Play
Do they work in a new profile?
Don't panic about losing bookmarks or settings... if they do work in a new profile you can transfer the settings over. Edit: "I've tried downloading another browser (Google Chrome in this case) but the problem there is exactly the same." I suspect trying a new profile will be a fruitless exercise... it really does sound like something non browser specific. Although Google Chrome is built off the same core as Firefox so it may be an idea to try it in IE. Last edited by manc39; 09-27-2008 at 09:31 AM. |

Re: Youtube Videos Won't Play
I tried creating a new profile in firefox, unfortunately that didn't help. Using internet explorer didn't solve the problem either.
isn't this the craziest thing ever? arggghhh I'm going nuts here

Re: Youtube Videos Won't Play
I had the same trouble. To solve it I went to firefox plugins and looked for flash player.
This should do it. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7 |

Re: Youtube Videos Won't Play
still nothing...
I've went as far as reinstalling my entire OS to try to fix this problem to date. I remember the last time I had this problem I reinstalled my OS and everything was working fine. This time that is not the case, which leads me to believe that it might be a problem with either firefox, adobe flash, or youtube. |

EDIT-> Did you click on the "Download" button or "Adobe flash player" They are different links. I used the "download button" and it worked. That was only about 2 weeks ago. Before that I had to use IE for youtube. Last edited by Mack; 10-01-2008 at 09:08 AM. |

Re: Youtube Videos Won't Play
I'm kind of skeptical about using older versions of firefox. I've tried 3 different browsers already.
you mean the "agree and Install" button? yeah that's the one i used. |

Re: Youtube Videos Won't Play
I finally managed to resolve the issue. It was none other than Norton Internet Security. Norton managed to let a malware app slip by unnoticed which consequently pissed me off so I uninstalled it. While it was uninstalled I decided, what the heck, lets try youtube and see if it works. Sure enough it did :)
I feel like I should mention that right-clicking and disabling the firewall and antivirus in the tray did not solve the problem...I had to actually uninstall norton completely. Hopefully this helps some of you who may have come across this problem. Currently running AVG 8.0 and Zone Alarm firewall, everything is running smooth :D |
