Mistake FireFox-Hyperlinks to emails do not open a blank email...

I have windows XP.

This used to work--with the old Firefox...20015.

Then I installed Firefox 3 and the problem started. So I uninstalled 3 and got back Firefox 20015---but the link still doesn't work.

For example, if I am looking at something at Craig's List and want to click on a link to bring up a black email----I click and NOTHING happens.

Now, don't yell at me, but my email program is Incredimail...but it's not INC cause it used to work.

Also, one other wee---tiny---little thing.... ;-)

PLEASE FORGIVE ME, but when I was casting about for a solution... I downloaded something to my REGISTRY!!! I know, I know... it happened before my brain engaged...

Here is what it was--well, still is--even though I did SYSTEM RESTORE to a month earlier than the day this went in...

So to summarize
*How can I get Firefox to bring up email links?
*Do I need to take this thingy out of my REGISTRY??
****If yes to above, how?

Here's what's in the REGISTRY: C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\TEMP\Rar$D100.766.\mailto.reg

Any, all, part of, wee-teeny-bit of help is soooo appreciated!!!

Re: FireFox-Hyperlinks to emails do not open a blank email...

Hi Key2kua, welcome to TSF

I'm not sure about the FF3 problem, I'm still using FF2. To fix the registry tweak that you applied, open Windows Explorer and Notepad, then drag the mailto.reg file into Notepad to see its contents. Go to Start > Run > regedit and navigate to the locations listed in Notepad. Remove them and reboot to complete.

Note: You should always make a backup of the registry in regedit (File > Export) before making any changes.

I'm sure you already know this, but Incredimail is not recommended. Even the full paid-for version lacks the security of other free email clients. As you're already using Firefox, how about switching your email to the much safer Thunderbird? It has more features and works perfectly with Firefox for POP, IMAP, Gmail, web-mail, etc.

Re: FireFox-Hyperlinks to emails do not open a blank email...

Koala, thanks for the answer. I couldn't find the tweak I applied....but I will give Thunderbird a look... hopefully the tweak won't bother anything, till I can find somebody to find it and take it out....

Thanks again!
Kua
