Problems loading certain pages past a certain point (possible trojan)
I'm currently attempting to fix a friend's computer.
When I got to it it was full of spyware and viruses. I deleted the phoney spyware doctor programs, installed Zone alarm and firefox. I'm now unable to access certain sites. For example; i can load the login for Facebook, but as soon as i enter my details it starts loading, but then stops at a certain point, and says its waiting for facebook... I experience the same problem when zone alarm is not active. Some sites work, and facebook seems to work in explorer sometimes. The settings options in firefox seem to have changed with the last update meaning some friend's advice is irrelevant Frustrating! Please help! |

Re: Problems loading certain pages past a certain point (possible trojan)
This happens with me and XP because my ISP give me problems, just out of curiosity who is her ISP?
As for fixing it, i suggest going to the Hijackthis log help forum and posting... Because the chances are they'll find something and can get the computer completely clean... I don't belive this is a virus problem though, because i get the same sort of thing, try a few other sites, like this e.g. hotmail(/windows live mail), myspace etc... As for the firefox update, check that you have FF3 =] because it's great. It really is nothing to quarrel about, it's generally quicker and better than the previous versions Cheers, Jamey |

Re: Problems loading certain pages past a certain point (possible trojan)
Haha, yes, that's the problem i was having, (panda)... I think ISPs in the UK are getting Shoddy, now the problem became apparent when you downloaded firefox, the same was with me but when i run Vista (rather than ubuntu) it does not occur, i have not found a fix for this, and i have argued with my ISP for a year about it too...
If i ever do find more info i'll post back |

Re: Problems loading certain pages past a certain point (possible trojan)
Virgin are also in the UK so sorry i assumed stuff there.
From my experience that's how it is with ISPs right now, TalkTalk(and others) just started logging everything that you view etc. which has caused broadband problems... I get the same thing when i run XP/ubuntu, i can't get past a "Waiting for "... Hotmail/x.myspace.com etc etc. So if you are adiment that it's a software problem, i advise: - You could (could) system restore to before the installations. > There are a few obvious problems with this, mainly that you'll lose settings/that there may not be an early enough restore point. - Try using windows Update to ensure you have the latest security updates+drivers etc. - Check your router's settings. for any form of firewall filtering (built in the firmware). I can't think of anything else. You could check for spyware(using HJT), Read this thread and follow the instructions: IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help if none of these works then i suggest taking a look at your ISP's recent changes, and see if they've also reserved the right to log everything you look at etc. Cheers, Jamey P.s. If you do find a fix then please do post it because this had me banging my head up against the wall. and is one of the reasons i can't completely migrate to Ubuntu. |
