[SOLVED] Mozilla Firefox won't completely load

As of 5/22/08, my firefox won't completely load. Also, when I click on 'Bookmarks', it won't completely load. When I access 'managing bookmarks', and exit, then 'Bookmarks' will load and show all bookmarks. Also, half the time, Mozilla won't respond at all from my desktop. I have not had any problems prior to a couple of days ago. My wife has, over time, loaded a large number of bookmarks into the computer. Is it possible that I am running out of RAM and need to remove some of those bookmarks? I have 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM. Thanks - hawkeye777

First of all let's check you have no extension issues causing your problems. Start Firefox in Safe Mode (from Start > Programs) and if it loads normally and your bookmark access is trouble free then I'd suggest it was an extension problem. If so, disable all your extensions (while in Safe Mode) and close Firefox. Re-open Firefox normally and enable your extensions 1 or 2 at a time (then close and re-open Firefox) to find the culprit(s).

It won't be a RAM problem but what do you mean by large number of bookmarks? I have over 1500 and no real problems.

From something you said it sounds like you have either Minefield or Gran Paradiso (Firefox 3) but there are a few versions of Firefox so it would be helpful to let us know what version you are running. You can do this via - Help > About Firefox - then copy and paste the bottom 2 lines.

Re: Mozilla Firefox won't completely load

Greetings Keith 397,
I appreciate your response. I think you successfully troubleshot the problem - I loaded Mozilla Firefox in "safe" mode and everything loaded properly relatively quickly, and completely. I tried a sampling of bookmarks and they also worked. I know what a file extension is - however, I know not what you're talking about with respect to extensions in this context. Is that another term for bookmark? How do I disable said extensions?

I probably have several hundred bookmarks - an ordere of magnitude less than what you have successfully loaded. Re: Firefox, I installed Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14 two days ago (5/22/08) to try to correct the problem. Problem contiuned - then I found your forum using IE.

Re: your PS addressing caches, I have the "Always clear my private data when I exit Firefox" box checked, which includes the "cache" box.

I appreciate your help, Keith397.

Keith

Sorry, you probably know them as Add-On's which you'll find a plethora of at the Mozilla Add-On's website, also known as AMO. To disable them you open the Add-Ons manager -> Tools > Add-Ons - and then you can disable them (or enable, uninstall, go to home page and a few other options) with a right click on the add-on in the pop up window.

Your version of Firefox is up to date by the way, which is what I was trying to ascertain so no prob's there.

You're very welcome to any help given here, we've all been through (and still are) going through the learning curves!

Re: Mozilla Firefox won't completely load

Keith, I powered up Mozilla, went to options/tools/add-ons and only found 3. I recognized a recent one my wife installed (Babylon), uninstalled it, and now Mozilla loads fine.

Thank you for solving my Problem.
With Regards,
Keith
