Firefox not loading certain pages...

I just got windows vista and recently my firefox partially stopped working. I can access some sites such as the main google page and wikipedia. But I cannot access yahoo or facebook. Once I type something into the searchbar on google and hit enter, it won't show the next page. I have Norton 360 and I have configured the settings to allow firefox to run but I still get the same problem. I don't know what to do and I am fresh out of ideas. Any Help?

Re: Firefox not loading certain pages...

Brotherhood77,

It sound like you have content or keyword filtering enabled in Norton 360 that's blocking access to certain websites based on keywords. Go into Norton 360 and turn off content blocking and/or parental controls. See if this helps.

Re: Firefox not loading certain pages...

I cannot find it in Norton 360. I didnt get the Norton Add-on pack with Norton 360. The parental control is in the Norton Add-on pack. And I cannot find the content blocking on Norton 360.

Hi Brotherhood77,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The first action I would suggest that you take is to clear all private data from Firefox, including cookies. If you still experience problems accessing certain websites, then please follow the steps in the document below to disable the "Transaction Security" feature in Norton 360.

Cannot connect to a specific Web site with Norton 360

Please make sure you follow the steps in this document carefully. If this process does not resolve the issue, please make sure that you follow Step # 7.

Please reply back to this thread and let me know if you are now able to connect to the sites.

Thank you,
Mike

Re: Firefox not loading certain pages...

I am still unable to connect. I have reached up to Step 4. I cannot go any further. Now when I try to visit a website, it tells me "the connection was reset."

Re: Firefox not loading certain pages...

Would this have anything to do with me not being able to go to web pages? There is a broken solid line from my laptop to the router and a straight solid line from the router to the internet. My brother uses his laptop and connects to the internet through the same router but he does not get any issues.

Hi Brotherhood77,

Did you click on the link in Step # 7 in the document that I referenced in Post # 4? When you click on that link it will take you to another document that has a connectivity test tool that you should run. Just make sure that you use Internet Explorer to run the tool.

If you are still unable to access the sites after running the tool, please follow Step # 4 in the document to send the information to Symantec for help.

Thank you,
Mike

Re: Firefox not loading certain pages...

My issue with the internet, is always on and off. As of right now, it's ok. No Problem. But sometimes it stops working or loads extremely slow. In this case I usually re-install firefox everytime and most of the time it fixes the problem. As of right now it's fine. I followed the steps in the article and everything works right now. they asked me to download and install a hotfix file, but that's for windows xp. I am currently running on windows vista. So If I were to download and install that hotfix file, I don't know if it would fix it. It also said to only download it if it is an extremely serious problem. It's also for a Windows XP platform.

Hi Brotherhood,

As long as your computer is not compromised by an infection, then the intermittent issues you are having with connectivity may be caused by a problem with your ISP.

When you click on the link in the document I referenced to download the Norton Connectivity Tool, choose "Run" instead of Save and after it downloads the tool it will notify you that you need a newer version for Vista and ask you if you would like to download it. Choose "Yes" and the Vista version of the tool will download. Using this tool is a good starting point to determine the problems you experience with internet connectivity.

Thank you,
Mike
