Help! I can't access certain sites

I've suddenly become unable to access certain sites which I'd previously used every day, namely hotmail, littlewoods.com, and hsbc to name a few. I'm still able to use other sites such as google and facebook and can access other secure sites such as ebay and paypal, so it's not a problem with secure sites! I've tried running spyware doctor to check for malware and spyware and found a few problems but this still has not resolved the issue. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 1300 linked to an eNet router through a wireless connection and my ISP is AOL. Any help would be much appreciated as this is driving me mad!

Re: Help! I can't access certain sites

Hey, my first tip is to clear your private data(cookies, cache etc) as that can sometimes cause that...

To do that:
Code:
- Tools->options
- Go To the privacy tab
- click the settings tab under "Clear private data" and make sure that you don't clear things you need [saved passwords]...
- Click ok on the settings tab
- Click the "Clear Private Data" tab
Haha, i just reread and noticed something, AOL, are you a fellow UK user? I believe TalkTalk and AOL are now the same provider? i'm on talktalk and have these sorts of problems all the time, ironically i found no cure, after having argued with talktalk "representatives" for ages on end...

Cheers,
Jamey

Yeah, I'm a UK user too - pants aren't they? But it's my parents broadband connection so not much I can do. I've tried clearing my private data but it didn't make a difference. I'm going round the bend now! It doesn't work in other browsers either

Re: Help! I can't access certain sites

Yeah, they really are shocking, and their customer support leave you running in circles aswell... Thats the only advice i ever got from them with the issue, clear all private data etc... And yeah i'm in the same situation, my mum changed the broadband provider and got us locked into a yearlong contract with talktalk...
Actually i e-mailed and got this aswell, it may help you, it didn't me:

Code:
Thank you for your e-mail regarding browsing issues.

I can begin to understand the frustration you have endured regarding this matter.

To resolve this issue please follow these instructions:

From your desktop:

1) Click “Start”, point to “Settings”, and then click “Control Panel”.
2) Double-click “Internet Options”.
3) Under Temporary Internet Files click “Delete Files”, and then delete cookies.

You may also need to temporarily disable any Windows security software. Do this by:

1) Clicking “Start”, point to “settings”, and then click “Control Panel”.
2) Double-click “Internet Options”.
3) Click the "CONNECTIONS" tab at the top on the window.
4) Click the "SETTINGS" option.
4) Click "PROPERTIES" then "ADVANCED".
6) Take the tick out of "protect my computer by limiting access from the Internet"
7) Restart your PC.

If you still suffer from a "page cannot be displayed" error after your system restarts, please do the following:

1) Click “Start”, and click on “Run”.
2) Once the "Run" window opens type in “cmd” and press “Enter”.
3) Once a black screen appears on your desktop, type the following:

ipconfig /flushdns then press “Enter”.
netsh int ip reset log.txt then press “Enter”.
netsh winsock reset, then press “Enter”. This command will then ask you to restart you PC.
Cheers,
Jamey

p.s. Unlike the broadband support personelle i actually do understand your frustration i lived with it for like 3 months... ironically since i've "up"graded to vista the problems stopped?

Re: Help! I can't access certain sites

Hi I have vista and i have the same problem except I don't get a "page cannot be displayed" but rather an unending loading page. This only happens to several sites though. Further information is listed here Firefox not loading certain pages....
