Suicidal please help

Ok so I am new to Firefox but i am not a complete novice although thats relative.
I will try to keep this simple.
I have PC running IE7 and tried to network a laptop a week ago via a router. This is where I think my probs started. I had many issues so disconnected everything and went back to PC only. I found i could not get access to certain websites (Mozilla, Avast. Eset but many more). I ran for virus and found 6 entries of WinMon.exe which I cleaned, Scanned again and all clear but situation was the same. I then started to get probs with Yahoo e mail so bit the bullet and switched to Firefox v2.

I can at least now get into Avast website but here is the dilemma.
I have enabled Javascript and find this locks me from many websites e.g. www.mozilla,com/en-US/
If I disable Javascript then the above site drives in quickly.
I only list this one as an example but there are numerous. Other sites e.g. www.eset.com will not display whatever the Java setting. These are numerous too. I was unable to bring up the add on web site and other forums.

I am running XP have auto proxy checked (have tried direct connection). I have also set not to check for bogus sites.

I feel it is all over the place right now maybe due to some simple setting. Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Suicidal please help

Unless your ISP requires a proxy, then I would enable direct connection. I would also enable Java and JavaScript.

Have you installed the NoScript Add-on? If so, you need to allow the sites which are problematic.

My suggestion would be to create a new test Profile. If this clears up your problems, then you can copy settings from the old Profile to the new.
