Firefox--Too Many Problems!
I read lots of rave reviews about Firefox and it was recommended to me by several people. After first downloading it I thought it was going to work fine. However, after attempting to add some of those add-ons such as a browser with black background which they recommended on their website as one of the nicest browsers, I started experiencing problems. Nothing I added would show up and then things froze up. I was so annoyed I deleted Firefox from my computer. After that I ran Ad-Aware and discovered 13 spyware, etc. items on my computer!
The only other site I had gone to was to download the Opera browser. That darn thing was so slow I deleted it from my computer too! I'm using that darn Internet Explorer which I don't care for since sometimes it won't show up some websites (ordinary sites shouldn't have any problems?). I used to switch over to Netscape and have no such problems. Now that it is no longer supported I have got to find something else. How about that new browser Flock or Safari? Any suggestions? Please advise. I'm at a lost!![]() |

Re: Firefox--Too Many Problems!
Try some others if you wish, but I just wanted to say that it took me a couple of years of trying FF before I got used to how it worked, how to edit my preferences, about:config, etc. I'd get frustrated and uninstall it...seemed like a zillion times. I started with FF at about version 07 or something like that!
Did you download the latest version 2.0.0.14 or the betas of Version 3? Even when 3 is final, I'm going to wait awhile on it. I have my FF2 just the way I want it, at last. I want to give some of my extensions time to catch up with it. I don't know what you mean about spyware, but I've never picked up more than a tracking cookie or two. I guess I'm just saying don't give up on it completely just yet. It really is a great browser. |

Re: Firefox--Too Many Problems!
Gotta agree with 'mommabear' - Firefox is still WAAAY better than Internet Explorer both for security and ease-of-use. I'd recommend doing a good thorough clean of your computer, and maybe consider your browsing habits - its not easy to pick up 13 spywares while using firefox!
Try to avoid visiting suspect websites that try leave nasties on your system (W.O.T. is a good extension to advise/warn of site ratings) |

Re: Firefox--Too Many Problems!
Yes, I downloaded the latest version. I'm going to try it again. Perhaps it was those cookies, etc. that I picked up. I know one thing for sure my mouse quit freezing up on me upon booting up after I ran Ad-Aware and discovered those things that Norton and Spysweeper didn't find. Ad-Aware sure is a smooth running program too. For a long time the type of websites I usually visit (zines, blogs, journals, magazines, writers & writing, history) don't usually have bad stuff one can pick up on but even they are changing! By the way, what is that W.O.T. you referred to? And how the heck do you get those add-ons in Firefox to work? Any advice you can give is welcome.

Re: Firefox--Too Many Problems!
WOT...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456 just click "add to firefox" to install an addon. Addons can be easily altered/removed from tools>addons>extensions There are many more addons to be found at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ I'd recommend you try one or two at a time - if you like it keep it, if you dont then uninstall it. Then try another. Some are higher rated than others - try searching for "recommended firefox addons" I currently have over 20 which i find useful to myself and experience no real slow-down as a result. Norton generally wont find adware as that is not it's specialisation (it is mainly a viruschecker/firewall) Good Luck |
