Hey, okay i'm using Firefox 3.05b and of course there are many of my add-ons that aren't compatible with the beta version. I've heard though that you can bypass the compatibility test for an extension? could anyone explain this process to me. (i've tried using the "ignore version check" on the add-on's page but then i get an error along the lines of "this add-on was not installed because it is not compatible with your version of firefox" though i've tried this with SwitchProxy (which i've heard is possible) and it still didn't want to install...
Can anyone help me out? Cheers, Jamey |

Re: Firefox 3.05b add-on compatibility bypass?
I am not sure how to "bypass" the compatibility issues. However, I have heard of many trying it and it made their "beta" copy of Firefox MUCH MUCH more buggy.
I would very much recommend using only the add-on's compatible with the beta version until the official Firefox 3 is released.

Re: Firefox 3.05b add-on compatibility bypass?
Hi Jamey,
Well, it is possible to make extensions work via a few different methods, but you should realise from the get-go that some will not work at all, especially some created for Firefox 2 will not work with Firefox 3 versions (Minefield and Gran Paradiso) for various reasons. The method I use is to 'bump' the extension (Method 1 in the tutorial). This means you change the max version value. Instead of me trying to explain it all here, you'll find all the info you need in this tutorial Good luck! Last edited by keithy397 : 04-27-2008 at 11:24 PM. |

Re: Firefox 3.05b add-on compatibility bypass?
haha, thanks very much for pointing me towards that tutorial it did exactly what i needed, i bumped Execute JS from 3.0b2 to 3.0b5 and it runs fine, i had a little trouble re-packaging the installer but after re-reading the instructions i realised i was compressing the files rather than just "storing" them in a zip file (7-zip)
Cheers much, Jamey |
