Confused Firefox caused an Error

I keep getting the firefox has performed an error, npswf32.dll message when I visit myspace.com and I don't know how to fix it.

When I go to Adobe Shockwave Download Center I get the following message:
We are unable to locate a Web player that matches your platform and browser.

ATTENTION NETSCAPE 6 USERS:

Note: If you have Netscape 6.0, then please update to Netscape 6.1 before installing the Shockwave Player. To determine what version of Netscape you have, select the "About Communicator" option in your browser's Help Menu. Click here to update your browser to Netscape 6.1.

Please visit our table of recommended Web players
Anyone know what I can do?

Re: Firefox caused an Error

Hi,

Firstly, make sure it is in the correct location. It should be here:-
C:\Windows(or WINNT)\System32\MACROMED\Flash....
If it isn't, move it there.

If that doesn't work type about:plugins in your addy bar and 'Enter'. You'll see a list of all your plugins. As you rightly point out, it is the Shockwave player you're having problems with. If you can't make sense of what it says there, at the top you'll see a link for 'pluginsdoc'. Follow that link, you should be able to sort things out from there.

Re: Firefox caused an Error

If that is where it is suppose to be I can already tell you that it's not there. When I looked in the System32 folder the only thing in there is a folder called drivers

Re: Firefox caused an Error

Do a search for the npswf23.dll file lazer, Let's establish where (if anywhere) it is.

Have you got a WINNT folder? If yes. look in there for it.

OK, back to basics!

What version of Firefox are you running?
Help > About Firefox (or Bon Echo, Minefield etc)

Re: Firefox caused an Error

Hey guys, this is lazer1978....I changed my id on here and am posting from the new one.

Any advice on what I should do about the error message that I'm getting? I'm getting it more and more often now. Seems like anytime I go to myspace.com or playlist.com is the times I'm getting the problem most.

Only thing I can figure out is its the flash ads that are causing me the problems.

Hi namechanger!

I wonder if it's your version of windows? If memory serves me right it looks like your os is Win 98?

Is your os fully updated?

Edit - Just noticed you've got Win ME

Re: Firefox caused an Error

Well, before we do anything else I reckon we should install a more up to date version of FF2 so click here and download the 2.0.0.15pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe version of what is there to your computer and then install it over the top of your existing version which should be in your C:\Program Files folder. I don't see much point in doing a clean install yet.

Let's see if that improves your performance.

Okay, doing that now to see if it works.

I have been using IE instead of Firefox to see if the same thing happens and it does, only the error message get is:

IEXPLORE has caused an error in FLASH09F.ocx

Re: Firefox caused an Error

It's obviously not a Firefox thing then so I wouldn't bother with installing the other version if everything else is OK in Firefox. No prob's if you do though.

I'll see if I can find anything with regard to your immediate problem, which is obviously now Flash based.

Re: Firefox caused an Error

cool lol...was wondering for a moment.

Anyway, any luck on finding something that I could do to fix my flash? I don't know what's going on with it but everytime I go back to the Adobe site they give me the error message that I talked about in the first post. The one where it says that they can't find a compatable player.
