[SOLVED] firefox crashes when i press the TAB key filling out certain forms

whenever i am filling out certain forms, for example, when i type in my username and then press the tab key to jump to the password box, firefox crashes.

i first noticed this when i went to log in to my school's website. i typed in my username, pressed tab to go to the password box to type in my password but it said firefox.exe has encountered an error and has to close, send error report, etc.

then i tried to log in to my online banking website, typed in my username, pressed tab (to move to the "Go" button link, which takes you to the next page where you type in your password) and it crashed as soon as i pressed tab.

again, when i went to log in on this forum, i typed in my username, pressed tab to move to the password box, and firefox crashed.

some forms it works fine, others it crashes - WTF!?

this is extremely weird and i have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. mad props to anyone who is can help with this.

That is indeed a strange problem. Have you tried reinstalling FF?

Do you have any form-filling addons installed in Firefox? Or anything that might have set the Tab key to do a specific function?

Do you have the same problem when running in Firefox Safe Mode with addons disabled?

Start > Run > "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

the only add ons for firefox i have are: DOM Inspector, Download Statusbar, MediaPlayerConnectivity, PDF Download, StumbleUpon, and Talkback.

(taken from Tools > Add-ons)

and tab works on many different forms and works moving from different buttons or links like it should...but just some times it crashes only on specific ones.

if i reinstall firefox, will i lose all of my bookmarks, settings, saved passwords, add-ons, etc?

To do a full, clean reinstall of Firefox you need to delete some hidden files from the Application Data folder. More details here. Make a backup of your bookmarks, profiles, etc with MozBackup to make sure you don't lose anything.

I would try safe mode before reinstalling though, or disable all your addons and restart Firefox in normal mode.

not so fast, restarting my computer seemed to fix it

. with most computer problems, this should've been the first thing to try to fix! i was busy on a lot of documents so i didn't want to close everything and have to restart. i still have no idea what was causing this crash to happen, but i'm glad it's fixed. thanks for your time though everyone.

The first question any support tech should ask is, "have you tried turning if off and on again?"
