[SOLVED] Can connect with IE, cant connect with Firefox

I am able to connect to the internet with IE, but i can no longer connect with Firefox. It has been like this since one of those automatic updates that Firefox does. I tried to undo the update with no success. I have also tried to play around with the settings, but nothing seems to work.

I am using XP service pack 2 and I am connected with wireless, but the problem continues also when i connect by the LAN cable.

Any advice, please?

Check your firewall settings. When programs are updated or new programs installed, the firewall has to be told they're ok to allow internet access.

Re: Can connect with IE, cant connect with Firefox

I also thought it was the firewall (ZoneAlarm), so I removed all Firefox applications from the list of programs in ZoneAlarm, but Firefox still doesnt ask for permission, it just opens but it doesnt connect. Is there any way to reset ZoneAlarm completely without uninstalling and installing it?

Try in Firefox..

Tools - Options - Advanced - Network - Settings

Then click on the option "Auto Detect Proxy Settings"

Exit out of Firefox, then reload it and see if it works.

Re: Can connect with IE, cant connect with Firefox

thanks, i finally solved it! it turned out to be related to the firewall after all. In ZoneAlarm programme control, I found Firefox and clicked on options, and enabled the function called "allow firefox to use other programmes to access the internet". Now it works!
