Firefox loses focus

Hey, on my firefox browser, whenever a new ad banner appears, it loses focus on the program that's running. it gets really annoying when i'm playing a browser-based game, as i have to click on the game screen to refocus the browser, and sometimes i press backspace when chatting, but it suddenly loses focus and puts me back one page. is there any way to fix this?

Re: Firefox loses focus

Install Ad-Block plus

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

And block the pop up's

Tool -> Options -> Content Tab -> Check the box next to "Block Popup Windows"

And you should be good to go.

Re: Firefox loses focus

they're not pop-ups. they're banner ads on-screen.

Re: Firefox loses focus

it's not something i can snapshot. but i can tell you that it's like having windows explorer (any windows folder) open in the foreground, and suddenly, activity in the background makes the foreground window's top bar go from dark blue to gray (or light blue, for those of you with XP theme; i'm using classic). a real example: when i'm playing an browser-based game online, whenever a new banner ad appears (above the game screen) i have to click on the game screen, or it would not respond to any keyboard command.

Re: Firefox loses focus

The screenshot is so we can see what you mean by banner ad. Are they flash or java games? Are they played in the browser or do they open in a new window? Do you have Firefox set up to use tabs or separate windows? Do the banner ads appear in the same Firefox tab/window as the game or outside Firefox?

Jack's suggestion of Ad-Block will block the banners appearing and stop them from taking focus away from the flash/java game.

Re: Firefox loses focus

flash, java, and shockwave. open in new tab. banner appears in same tab. also: sorry about the poor screenshot quality, i had to do it in a hurry, AND the limit of 1.96MB seems ridiculously low. and: how do i make the screenshot appear right on the post?

Re: Firefox loses focus

Try Ad-Block.

Quote:
Ever been annoyed by all those ads and banners on the internet that often take longer to download than everything else on the page? Install Adblock Plus now and get rid of them.

Right-click on a banner and choose "Adblock" from the context menu - the banner won't be downloaded again.
The 1.96mb limit for attachments is more than enough if you save as jpg instead of bmp. A typical fullscreen jpg image will be under 100k.

Re: Firefox loses focus

I have the same issue. When I was playing texttwist the other day anytime the banner changed it would make me have to click back into the game screen to continue on. Very annoying when it's a keyboard game!
