[SOLVED] cant uninstall an addon

firefox asks for server permission when i load it up. i have firefox 2.0.0.5 and i recently loaded the allpeers 0.60.2, a file sharing program, and im pretty sure this is why. i dont want firefox to act as a server every time i start it up, but i cant uninstall the allpeers addon. i even tried reinstalling firefox and deleting all the files that were left in the folder but all of my addons were still there. is there any way i can get rid of it? thanks

trojan?

first of all, i tried to edit my last post but i didnt see the edit button, so heres a new one. firefox 2.0.0.5 is asking for server permission, and when i close it there is still an instance running, and i have to close it with task manager. reinstall didnt help. i just ran auslogics registry defrag and that is when the problem seemed to start. also my harddrive accesses a lot when nothing is going on, says its system idle process. norton doesnt pick up anything. thanks

Re: cant uninstall an addon

Did you delete the add-on's files from the profile folder? When you uninstall and reinstall the profile folder remains and all settings and add-ons will transfer to the new installation.

Re: cant uninstall an addon

There's a hidden folder that stores your profile details, including add-ons and themes. To completely uninstall Firefox you need to delete this folder.

Open Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab and click 'Show hidden files and folders'

C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Re: cant uninstall an addon

actually i found that out on my own, and also that there are 2 separate locations for firefox under documents and settings... pain in the butt but i fixed it. theres another folder doc &set/[user name]/local settings/ app data... that apparently doesnt count when you delete it. i should probly know that anyways heheh. how microsoft of them

Re: [SOLVED] cant uninstall an addon

Which firewall do you have installed that is asking for Firefox server permission?

I've been using AllPeers for a few months and have had no problems with its permissions using Comodo, and no unusual disk activity. To see what's going on, check Event Viewer when the hard drive is being accessed.

Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Admin Tools > Event Viewer
or
Start > Run > %SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

Re: [SOLVED] cant uninstall an addon

im using zonealarm. is comodo any better? the thing is, im getting this disk activity ever since i ran auslogics registry defrag, but it seems to be getting better. event viewer says norton auto update is goin crazy, but i never notice it saying that its been updated like its supposed to. my norton has been acting very strange ever since the reg defrag... i guess i should uninstall it with the tips that are posted on this site but i dont know what else to use. ive tried avg but it didnt install on my comp. are there any other good ones?

Re: [SOLVED] cant uninstall an addon

Comodo comes out slightly higher in the benchmark tests, but it's about the same quality as ZA, and they are both far superior to the built-in Windows firewall. If you're happy with Zone Alarm then stick with it.

Registry defraggers and optimizers are never as good or as useful as they claim to be. Turn off Norton's autoupdate, or preferably uninstall it along with the registry defragger.

See here for security recommendations.

EDIT: Where did you download Auslogics Registry Defrag from? McAfee Site Advisor shows that there are quite a few dodgy sites where the program is available, possibly infected.
