Tor slowing firefox

Yes i've decided to use Tor/proxy but whenever i turn it on with the firefox add-on torbuttom ( at the right bottom side of firefox) it dramaticly slows my internet speed, does this mean i have to portforward the port in which tor is used?

Re: Tor slowing firefox

i'm actually not too familiar with how Tor works, is it on a server? Like a shared server or what.

TOR will anonymize your connection, but it will undoubtedly slow your connection down, that's stated by the developers.

Quote:
Communications are bounced around a distributed network of servers called onion routers, protecting you from websites that build profiles of your interests, local eavesdroppers that read your data or learn what sites you visit, and even the onion routers themselves.

Tor's security is improved as its user base grows and as more people volunteer to run servers. Please consider volunteering your time or volunteering your bandwidth. And remember that this is development code—it's not a good idea to rely on the current Tor network if you really need strong anonymity.
