Re: Faster Web Browser

as far as i know Thunderbird is the email program used by firefox not a browser
opera is recognised as the fastest browser and comes with inbuilt mail program and download manager

Re: Faster Web Browser

I would say Opera or Slimbrowser (IE clone) latest version are the fastest all round. Google them and visit their site to download and see for yourself.

Re: Faster Web Browser

For me, it's worth the sacrifice to have the add-on usability in Firefox. My computer's not that fast anyway.

Re: Faster Web Browser

Nah, you want Elinks, or lynx in a linux environment. These are non-graphical and page load is phenomenal. Typically, less than 2 seconds per page load, and you only display images you want!

Re: Faster Web Browser

My vote goes to Opera. Very fast, easy to configure or personalize and just a great free browser.

Re: Faster Web Browser

Actually, Linux web browsing is a better experience than in Windows all round, even download/upload with the same network connection, but I'm sure we're just talking about XP here.

Re: Faster Web Browser

If only designers actually cared enough about text only users to make style sheets that are compatible with lynx.

Re: Faster Web Browser

But make sure to disable prefetching, or link following or whatever it's called. It's a faux pas to suck up bandwidth that 90% of the time you don't even need.

Re: Faster Web Browser

Yup, what Fox said applies to Fx when using Fasterfox along with it. Disable the Prefetch option in that addon.

Elinks is awesome, and calls up an internal display image program, and does quite well at adjusting fonts for readability. I know, I use it to flip around some time.

Very small, too. I popped it in Ubuntu for kicks, and as far as reading news sites, itisit.
