wmp update missing plugin

I updated from wmp 10 to 11 and ever since, firefox keeps saying it doesnt have the plugin to play certain files on the internet. (like streaming videos and things like that) I tried using the plug-in installer but it said it couldn't automatically do it. so it sent me to a site where i could download the plug-in manually, but when I click it, a message pops up saying that the installer is not a valid win32 installer. So i put the exe in the plug in folder (which i didnt figure would work) and didnt work. So, how do I regain the ability to play these files?

Re: wmp update missing plugin

Hi

Type about:plugins in the URL address bar and hit enter. Look there for WMP listed and what version and state for the plugin is with different MIMETypes.

Visit this link below, and test if each of the test video/audio plays and if not, which one and what does it suggest/show? Plugins Test

You can further troubleshoot with this, a first must read for Fx and WMP: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206213

Re: wmp update missing plugin

There is a newer Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox, which you can download here:

wmpfirefoxplugin.exe

Re: wmp update missing plugin

RamonaJ: That plugin is very buggy for me on 4 separate systems so I tend not to use it at all.

Re: wmp update missing plugin

Kalim,

Is that on a Mac, or Windows? I don't need it at all, and have no problems with media files and WMP, on Firefox 2.0.0.4.

Re: wmp update missing plugin

My situation is like yours then.

The plugin gives problems on Windows XP Home and Professional SP2, with Fx 2.0, 2.0.0.4 and Gran Paradiso Alpha 5 (all stock settings, old and new profiles). Haven't tested in anything other because the system I tried it for was for business, and was playing WMP fine without it anyway, so I just removed it.
