Firefox V2 has slowed to a crawl.

Recently I noticed that my FF has slowed down completely. Now, when I click a link, I dont get the loading bar down the bottom. Sometimes I have to click it 3 or 4 times just to make it work. Then, most the time, I get a server timed out error. It often takes a few refreshes to fix this.

I noticed in the about:config file there is a lot of bold entries now, whereas the only ones needed are the ones to speed FF up.

Any ideas on this??

Have you tried FireFox's Standard diagnostic steps?

Bold entries in 'about:config' are those that have been altered from their default settings. Extensions might also add bold entries. These can still be present even if the extension is uninstalled. If there appears to be entries of this type, right-click on them and choose 'Reset'. When the browser is re-started, the entries should disappear (if they are redundant).

As regards the slowness, try starting Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode to see if that makes a difference. When Firefox does anything wrong, it's always worth seeing if its a Profile problem (see the sticky at the top of the forum). The Standard Diagnostic is a good Mozilla article. Following the steps described in it will lead to a cure of many Fx problems. Sometimes though, there are a few shortcuts. Trying Safe Mode straight away is one of those. Safe Mode starts Firefox with themes and extensions disabled and so eliminates them from being the cause of a fault.
