Firefox and Mcafee?

I have heard and also McAfee support has told me that you should not use McAfee with Firefox... you can use it with any browser other than Firefox... is this true? If so why?

No,IE needs to be your default browser for manual updates for previous versions of Mcafee(not Total Protection or Falcon)as i understand it.
You can still use Firefox or Opera for surfing if you wish.

McAfee SiteAdvisor works with Firefox. I haven't any personal experience of McAfee AV or firewall, so I can only say what I've read.

I understand IE's ActiveX function is needed to install the program and download updates. ActiveX is not supported by Firefox. When updates are available, McAfee looks for the default browser. If Firefox is the default, updates cannot be downloaded and I understand you'll get a message to that effect. I've read that Firefox's ActiveX control for Windows Media Player might be made to work with McAfee but I wouldn't be certain of that. Also, I don't think there's a plugin written for Firefox 2.0 yet. Enabling ActiveX functions in Firefox is perhaps not such a good thing anyway. Some of the attraction of Firefox is that it doesn't use it.

I can't see why Opera wouldn't be the same as Firefox because that doesn't use ActiveX either. I have seen an ActiveX plugin mentioned. Maybe that's the answer. All would probably be OK if you use IE to check for updates. There are lots of products to choose from if you'd prefer to use something else.

Ditto to all that. McAfee site advisor does however conflict with a few extensions as well.

Some of associates run McAfee and so do Mods at Mozillazine. I've never used it personally so I'm not sure what they do there. There is a way around it though somewhere.

Yes avast! supports using Firefox - all versions.

I am running McAfee, IE7 and Firefox with no problems but as has been said just make sure IE is the default browser
