FireFox2
I have just installed IE7 and am having problems. One of which is having to sign into different websites every time I go to that website after I leave the home page and come back to the home page. I have read an article compareing IE7 and FoxFire2. The article rates FoxFire2 over IE7. Any feed back on FoxFire2 would be helpful.
Thanks Bob |

I`ve been using Firefox for quite some time now. I`ve found that with Firefox I don`t get as many pop ups as I did back when I was on IE, pages seem to load a lot faster, and Firefox works on both Window$ and Linux.
If you want my personal advice, I`d ditch IE and go with Firefox.

When you get firefox, also get the fasterfox estension....it makes things even faster, just set it to turbo.
Firefox> www.getfirefox.com FasterFox>http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/ I have had Firefox for about 6 months now, and there is no way I will ever go back to IE. Firefox is faster, if you have to shut down without closing it, you can return back to your session once you restart firefox, it has tabbed browsing, will save your passwords for you if you want, Just have to say I love my Firefox. |

I disagree with WOLFMAN1966 on this point for this reason. Why prefetch page content that you may not be going to look at?

OK, but you should check your information a little bit better. Fasterfox does NOT prefetch unless you tell it to. to make sure though, after getting Fasterfox.. do the following.
When running FireFox with Fasterfox installed, you will see a small fox and some numbers in the corner of the window, right click on the fox, and when the window opens, click on "options: this will open a window with 2 tabs on it labeled "Presets" and "FasterFox" Presets should be showing, if not then click on the Presets tab you can then set the speed at either Default >this is regular firefox with no speedup Curteous>Does rendering tweaks only, does not increase server load Optimized>Network operations for increased performance with RFC specs Turbo Charged>Maximum performance, exceeds RFC specs(increases load to webservers) This is where I set mine, by the way. or Custom>Display advanced options for customizing your own speed settings (since I dont know how to do this I leave it alone) Now...about "prefetching" click on the Fasterfox tab and it will give you two checkable options....one for prefetching, which I recommend you DO NOT check, as what prefetching does is pre-fetch ALL links on a page, so that they will load faster, however if prefetching is enabled, there is a small possibility of prefetching a link that opens a virus/trojan...so it is best NOT to prefetch. The other option is for your page load timer, which is what the numbers beside the little fox in the left hand corner are. I leave it on because it shows how fast each page loads, but you can turn it off if you want to. |

oh, and setting it to TURBO will NOT enable prefetching, you have to go on the Fasterfox tab and enable that yourself, which I just stated I do not recommend....or if you don't want to mess with it, just download Firefox, and dont get Fasterfox, Firefox still beats out IE

I have just installed the latest version of Fasterfox and see that you are quite right to come back at me in an indignant way
Turbo can be enabled without prefetching. I haven't installed this extension since an early version. In earlier ones, didn't Turbo once mean that prefetching was enabled by default? Apologies WOLFMAN1966. I should have kept up with things. I do try but Firefox is such a versatile browser that keeping up with all aspects of it takes some doing.

HEY, no problem, I wasn't trying to be indignant, just informative. Sorry if it came out that way, just wanted to make sure that you had the correct information. As far as the older versions of Fasterfox enabling prefetching, not sure, I've only been using it for version 1.5 and 2.0 , and neither of them did...so maybe before that.
peace out, no apologies necessary |
