firefox is messing up
My scroll isn't working right. I used to be able to scroll by clicking on the arrow keys, now when I use the arrow keys the cursor just moves through the pages.
Also when hitting "back" on the browser it doesn't go to the same spot on the page it goes back to the beginning. For example: when browsing this forum, I was at the bottom of the first page of list of threads, I click on a thread to read it then hit back, it USED to take me back to that same spot (bottom of the page) but now when I go back it's at the beginning of the page again. Also, it freezes and shuts down constantly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling I love firefox, and don't use IE anymore at all. |

Firefox has an accessibility feature called 'Carat Browsing' that places a cursor in a web page that can be moved with the arrow keys. Press F7 and choose 'No' to turn it off. Alternatively, it can be done in: 'Tools > Options > Advanced > General Tab > Accessibility Section'. Untick the box that says: 'Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages'.
This should stop the back button problem too. EDIT: Forgot to comment on the 'freezing' problem: Perhaps reading, 'The Importance of Profiles' sticky at the top this forum will help. Problems in Profiles are not cured by reinstalling. Last edited by martt; 11-27-2006 at 11:37 PM. |

To create a new Profile:
* Click the Windows 'Start' button. * Select 'Run'. * Type firefox.exe -p (note the space) into the box. * Press OK. * A box called the 'Profile Manager' will appear showing your existing (default) Profile. * Click the 'Create Profile' button to start creating a new (additional) Profile. * After the new Profile has been created, the Profile Manager will appear every time the Firefox shortcut is clicked (until you tell it not to by using the option in the Profile Manager dialogue box). * Select the Profile you wish to start Firefox with (the one you just created in this case) and continue to open Firefox. * Import the bookmarks file you saved into the new Profile. * Run Firefox with this Profile for a while to see if the problem being experienced clears up. Before doing any of that, you could try starting Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode (shortcut in the Start Menu) to see if an extension or theme is causing the trouble. If the browser doesn't crash or freeze running like this, then start Firefox normally, disable all the extensions and then re-enable them one by one to see which one makes the freezing recur. When using a new Profile, it is possible to use the extensions already installed if you use the MozBackup extension (see the other sticky at the top of the forum). However, if the existing Profile is giving trouble, it might be better to reinstall the extensions from the Mozilla Add-ons site. One by one might be best to see if any of them upset the smooth running of the browser. Deleting a Profile can also be done via the Profile Manager: Highlight the Profile to be deleted and click the 'Delete Profile' button. All this might be alot of writing to describe what eventually becomes a few easy steps once you are used to how Firefox behaves. I hope it's described well enough. If not, there's an awful lot more to read on the subject of Profiles here. Last edited by martt; 11-28-2006 at 03:28 AM. |
