Firefox is keeping search records of some sort...
Hey,
I recently updated to Firefox 2 and ever since then (I believe it happened then) whenever I type a letter(s) in the search bar, it lists a whole bunch of previous searches. Even stuff from a very long time ago that I don't even remember searching. I tried clearing cache's and messing with some options, but I can't seem to figure out why it's doing that and how to get rid of it. IE isn't doing it. It doesn't even happen when I go to the actual search page (google.com, for example). Any ideas? Thanks a lot, CMA |

Firefox 2.0 has a feature called 'Search Suggestions'. This attempts to predict the search terms you are going to type. It can be handy sometimes but if you'd prefer not to use it, right-click on the search box and untick 'Show Suggestions'.

Excellent,
Thanks man . I am curious though, any idea where firefox keeps these records? Or is it not based on previous searches?CMA Last edited by CrazyManAndy; 11-25-2006 at 02:02 PM. |

It isn't based on previous searches so isn't stored anywhere (as far as I know). I suppose it can be thought of as being like the 'predictive text' function on a mobile phone. It just brings up a number of search terms to choose from that you might be going to type. I've found it often gets things right too. It works with the Google and Yahoo search engines (read here).
