Firefox refuses to work

I've been using firefox for almost 2 years now no problem, but now firefox will not open up. I've tried reinstalling rebooting clearing the registry key I don't know what to do now. whenever I click on any of the icons to firefox, nothing comes up. If I open up the task manager, it shows the firefox process like normal. can anyone help me?

If Firefox is closed and still running in the Task Manager then left click on Firefox to highlight and End Process. Then try to open FF.

I have a similar problem. One day FF just stopped working. I have tried all that was suggested including reinstalling to FF 2.0. Firefox starts but for all sites says - problem loading page and i cannot see any website. IE is working perfectly fine.

This may be out of place but I tried installing Opera 9.02 with the same results. Both FF and Opera load up, all toolbars and menus work fine but no websites.
This is happening only on Winxp Pro - not on my win98 (i have dual boot).

Any help any one? Thanks

I did all that hundreds of times, plus a restart should have fixed it if that was the problem

I realise you have tried reinstalling but since you haven't mentioned the Profile (or Profiles folder) specifically, I have to ask: The reinstalling has included creating and using a new Profile has it? Or manually deleting the existing Profiles folder and letting Firefox create a new one?

Would that be both Mozilla folders?

1. C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
and
2. C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Mozilla

If you manually deleted the Profiles folder (C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Mozilla), it should end up in the Recycle Bin. You could take the folder out of there, put it on the Desktop and rescue the 'Bookmarks.html' file that is buried within it. This file can be put into the same location in the new Profile (let it overwrite the existing file). Either that, or you can put 'Bookmarks.html' on the Desktop and use Firefox's 'Import' function, located in the Bookmarks Manager, to import the bookmarks. Importing IE's bookmarks might be another option.

Since the old Profile has been troublesome, I personally wouldn't use any other files from it. Reinstalling themes/add-ons and re-customising is probably best.
