Can't open email client
I have Firefox 1.5.0.8 and that's not the reason I'm here but is my browser. I can't open my email client, IncrediMail Pro for some reason. It has botten slower and slower for the past couple of weeks and now it won't open at all. I checked my firewall to see if ZA had changed anything and all is well there. I ran several spyware programs and all is well there as well. I use MailWashere Pro to filter incoming email but that's just a shortcut more or less, but it wouldn't open IncrediMail as usual and that's why I tried Incredimail direct-still no luck. Can anyone suggest what may be the problem? I've emailed IncrediMail using Outlook Express, but haven't gotten an answer-that was yesterday.

martt-After playing around with this problem late last night, I found that was indeed the problem(for whatever the reason). I downloaded the latest version of IncrediMail(Build 2598) over the existing one(Build 2479). There must have been a corrupt .dll file in the version I had causing the problem as shutting down ZA Pro didn't help not did shutting down Spy Sweeper. This changed fixed the problem.
carsey-I've been a little reluctant to go to 2.0 as I hear folks with problems having to retweak about:config. The tabs are smaller and different and won't allow the "surfing" it once did without having to resort to a scroll method of tabs. Not sure if I want that or not yet as the version I have...1.5.0.8 works great. |

I'm pleased you got the IncrediMail problem sorted out. Regarding the upgrade to Firefox 2.0, some have found the scrolling tab behaviour unacceptable in this version. True that there is an 'about:config' tweak that can be done but many are installing the 'Tab Mix Plus' extension to return tab behaviour to more or less what it was in Firefox 1.5. Just worth a mention in case you do want to upgrade.
The 'about:config' tweak: Type about:config into the address bar. Find 'browser.tabs.tabMinWidth'. The default value is 100. Right-click on it and change the value to something lower (I've seen '5' recommended but experiment a bit). Tab Mix Plus |

I may reconsider after this. You know how it is-some of us "old timers" just don't like change. You get use to something and someone wants to come along and change it all. Sort of like someone moving your favorite chair to the opposite side of the room!!

Ah well ...I'm a WW2 baby myself, so I know what you mean. I like to try and keep up with computers a bit though. It's a good pastime, even if it does sometimes mean getting into and out of trouble. I often think computers are at their most interesting either when trying out new software, or when they have something wrong with them that needs sorting out :).
That must come from repairing TVs and video recorders for years. Always enjoyed getting to the bottom of a good mechanical or electronics fault. |

I use to repair old tube radios for a hobby. Everything from a 1930 Cathedral Philco to RCA's and Crosleys. Problem with that, they took up too much room. I only had 28 or so on hand though! I did learn there were certain things you didn't touch while repairing ..like that big horse choking transformer that put out 750 VDC for the rectifier tube!! Accidentally did that once and it made a believer out of me. I've learned if it ain't broke...

Off topic but I hope it'll be tolerated. A bit on the TV trade in an era when things got repaired rather than changed. I never did finish the page but:

Hmmmm...I didn't recognize any of those models at all. I suppose the difference between aerial and antenae depends on what side of the ocean your from. I don't know much about the TV repair business but if you ever run across a good, playable 1950's Grundig-pick it up at all cost. A fabulous German radio with Short wave and all. I saw one in a motel in Clearwater, Florida some years back and asked if they'd sell it. "Sure-for $300"!! A bit more than I had in mind but, it was gorgeous and the sound was impeccable.
