I have an Imac G3 running OS 9.2.2. I bought grey discs online that say eMac. The seller said that they were universal, but whenever I put the CD in and click on the icon that said Install OS X it says to start the installation process, I need to restart the computer. Whenever I restart, nothing happens, but when I click on the icon again, the same thing comes up. Please help me!!!!

does the cd say universal install? if not then it will only work on the emac. also, is your firmware up to date? i know on some of the g3 imacs the firmware had to updated before installing os x. as far as the cds go, apple once upon a time would include a restore cd, and a universal os install cd, but now i think they only include a os install cd keyed to the mac listed on the cd. so the emac cd may be from a newer emac, and therefore not install on other macs. but check your firmware.

What model of iMac do you have? I can usually figure this out with the speed (MHz), if the CD is slot-loading (instead of the tray) and the color.
