Problems with the Ethernet Connection
Hi there!
I use a Mac Powerbook G4 (Mac OSX 10.4.2 Tiger) and have little prior knowledge regarding the use of an Apple computer. At the moment I am having problems with my ethernet-connection (University-Network). The ethernet is displayed as being active but I cannot connect to the internet, nor to the mail-server. When prompted, the computer tries to establish the connection for quite a while (while the Safari-Window stays completely blank) and then acknowledges failure. The current network-configuration worked perfectly well up to now. The network-connection seems to be physically present, but I cannot get beyond the internal network itself. Any ideas on what I should do? Cheers. NwaS |

sounds like what ever router you are plugged into is not plugged into the internet, or not set up to allow you out of the internal network. is there any way to check that connection, or to get someone to check it?

Do you know if the network uses DHCP (autoconfigures your settings) or requires users to manually configure everything? When you try to use that network, do you have an IP that starts with 169 (like 169.189.225.175)?

Thanks!
I will try to find someone who can check whether the connection is set up correctly. Also, I will check the IP-address.
Strangely enough, the internet worked again last night and now it does not anymore, without my changing any of the settings. I seem to be the only one in the house that has the problem (we are all part of the same network). Will let you know what happens. |
