Upgrading PowerBook Memory for Avid Xpress

My friend at USC Film School recently bought Avid Xpress Pro to use on his PowerBook. He tried to run it and it took at least ten minutes to load to the project dialogue. I checked out his specs and realized he was trying to run a program that hogs 300MB of memory when he only has 512 total.

So my question is this: What's a preferable upgrade for a PowerBook? It's a fairly new computer--should he just take it back to the campus store and ask them for an upgrade, or should I upgrade it for him? If I should upgrade it, what's the best memory for a PowerBook?

I've had quite a bit of experience manipulating PCs, but I've pretty much only worked with Apples that were straight out of the box or modified by professionals. Any advice?

it shoudn't be too difficault. it depends on what ram he has in there. if its 2 256, then you'll be pulling one to add some, but if its one 512, then even better. macsales.com is a good place to get mac parts from. and the owners manual should tell you how to add more ram. if it doesn't, or sayes to take it to apple, then do that.
