MacOS X 10.4.3 and hp printer

Hi,
I have an HP PSC 1610 All-In-One Printer and my PowerBook G4 won't recognize the printer when I plug it in via USB. I can see the printer under Printer Set-up Utility, but when I click Add Printer, I get the message "error—unavailable." I've tried reinstalling the original software and installing the update but neither works. Also, my roommate has an identical printer and when I plug my computer into her printer, her printer shows up but I similarly can't Add Printer.
Any help would be appreciated!

may be a stupid question, but is the printer turned on? also, have you tryed a different usb port? could be your port ot usb cable are bad.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. The printer is turned on and we have tried more than one USB port. So I don't think either of these things are causing the problem.
