Do think its worth it?

I want to trade or sell my laptop for a imac or macbook pro, do you think it is a good idea? I am only in 8th grade but I go to an online school so a laptop would probably be better for the future (college) and more portable. But mac laptops are more expensive, and the imac is better and cheaper just not portable. Anyway I bought my laptop for $2400 and think I could get an even trade for either of those machines. BTW are macs good? Or harder to use than Windows? I have some expierence with Ubuntu so it can't be that bad... these are my specs: (could I get an even trade, and for which one imac or macbook?)
Studio 1735, Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5 GHz 800 Mhz 6m L2 Cache.
Midnight Blue color.
4GB DDR2
Back-lit keyboard
Hi Res glossy 17 inch widescreen WLED
8x Slot Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
ATI mobility radeon hd 3650
320GB 5400rpm SATA hard drive
Windows Vista Sp2 Home Premium
2.0M pixel webcam
Adobe Acrobat
Roxio Creator DE 10
Lojack theft revovery 3 year
Mcafee 3 year
3 year limited warranty
3 year accidental damage
fingerprint reader (allows you to log on to computer by swiping your finger)
and a lot of extra software.

Re: Do think its worth it?

For that price you could of gotten the base models of an iMac and a Macbook Pro. As for price comparisons, goto Apple's website and look at the price and configuration of Macs. As for a college computer, it's still too far away for you to be thinking that a computer you get now will be a good buy. Remember, computers are outdated in under a year's time. Sure, one you get now should still type up papers, check email and surf the web, but that'll be about it. Laptops are great, and the right one can be as good as, if not better then, a desktop. The laptop you have now is one of those. The real question is, why are you looking at Macs? IMHO, Macs are awesome, and I love all of mine, and always have. I find the Mac OS much more friendly then Windows, but you have a really nice laptop, that you spent a lot of money on, and I wonder why you wish to dump it.

Re: Do think its worth it?

Thank you for your reply. Yeah computers constantly get upgraded but I don't think RAM requirements for programs will change much (which is the biggest requirement for software now a days besides graphics cards and internet speed) so I shouldn't have to worry with anything just some software and the actual operating system that would need updating. I am looking for a Mac simply because I have never had one and am interested with it. I am not "dumping" really I have two other computers (one new and one old, the new one also running vista and the old one running xp and ubuntu) and with this laptop I just feel I was ripped off horribly and was wishing I could "trade it in" for something. I concluded my decision because I learned Windows 7 would be coming out and I would NOT be getting a free upgrade. So again I ask could I trade this laptop for a imac or macbook pro? Or would you recommend illegally getting a copy of Windows 7? =D jk

EDIT: My new desktop computer (my dads) actually cost less than my laptop and definitely has better hardware than it another reason I feel was ripped off. A Imac not only costs less but has better hardware except for the same intel core 2 due which dissapoints me.

Re: Do think its worth it?

Well, I sure you could find someone willing to trade, but I still think it'd be to your loss, unless you were getting a 17" Macbook Pro.
