Extending Hard Drive
Hi
I have an IMAC 20" 250GB the memory is as good as full. I have bought a Western Digital 2TB external hard drive to run with firewire cable. What I want to do is extend the memory of the IMAC to include to external hard drive so essentially all my photos, music, and videos have no real limit! So I need to know how to set up the drive to do what I want, I dont want to use it as a backup device as I have another external hard drive to do this job. Any help would be great Thanks |

Re: Extending Hard Drive
Plug it in, and then treat it like a big flash drive, you'll have to copy the files you want to be on it over. If you use iTunes and iPhoto, make sure you have quit both programs, then you can copy the iTunes folder from the Music folder to the drive, and the iPhoto folder from the Pictures folder to the drive, and then start up the programs. When they can't find the library folder in the normal spot, they will ask where it is, and you can point it to the other hard drive, and they will now use that drive to store everything you add to them. As for movies, iMovie doesn't move movie files that I know of, so just save and store them all on the new drive and then iMovie will just point to them when you use them in projects. Also make sure that you save all iMovie projects and iDVD projects to the drive.
