boot up problems

Hi,

My son has a mac book, when he turned it on this morning he got the apple logo, it then went to a folder with a question mark in it then a no entry symbol.

Is there any way to solve this problem?? He cann't find the disk that came with it.

It is running leopard.

It means that it can't find an OS to boot from. When you start it, hold down the option key right away. You should get a menu with bootable disks that the Mac sees. If nothing shows up, it means that the hard drive is gone. If you do see a hard drive icon, click it and then the continue arrow. If it still fails to boot, the OS is bad, and you'll need the disks to do a repair.

Ok tried that I found the HD and clicked on the arrow, all I get now is the apple logo flashing between an no entry sign and the folder with an question mark, they keep continually flashing so does that mean the OS has gone bad? or is there something else I can try?

Sounds like a bad OS install. Time to hunt for the disks.
